Couples Therapy in
Utah and Washington

Compassionate support for couples ready to do the work.

What is Couples Therapy?

Understanding the Patterns Beneath the Problems

Couples therapy helps partners identify and shift the negative cycles driving conflict and disconnection. Often those cycles are fueled by deep unrecognized attachment needs, not the surface arguments that seem to be the problem.

In couples work, we help partners recognize the emotions underneath their patterns, respond to each other differently, and rebuild the trust and connection that makes a relationship worth fighting for.

We use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two of the most research-supported approaches in couples work, adapted to each couple's unique dynamic and goals.

What to Expect

Honest Work in a Safe, Structured Space

Sessions are 50 minutes and held with both partners present. Your therapist will work to understand each of your perspectives without taking sides, and help you start building new ways of communicating and responding to each other.

Early sessions focus on understanding your cycle: what triggers it, what each of you is really feeling underneath, and what you both actually need. From there, the work moves toward breaking that cycle and building something more secure in its place.

Couples therapy is available in person at our Utah and Washington offices, or via telehealth for partners who prefer to meet from home.

Every couple is different. Some see meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term work. At your first session we'll discuss your goals and give you a realistic sense of the timeline.

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. It focuses on building friendship, managing conflict, and creating shared meaning — practical tools that change how couples interact day to day.

Yes. Premarital counseling is one of the most effective investments couples can make. We help you build a strong foundation before marriage using many of the same evidence-based tools we use in couples therapy.
